VEGAS baby!!!

Had a great long weekend in Vegas this weekend with my parents and Uncle Beau. Here are a few pics. Marie celebrated her 1st birthday, and we hung out by the pool a lot. Went to the strip one night. Ate Thai food and CPK, watched some TV, visited, and endured a tired Axel who was on one most of the weekend.

With the wisdom, maturity, and sense of responsibility Axel has already demonstrated, it's hard to imagine he's only 3 years old - but alas it's true. Ace man has reached the ripe age of 3. He's legal - legal to drink out of a cup with no lid, drive on a cycle with 2 wheels instead of 3, and of greatest import, purchase and play with the whole new world of toys available to age 3+. Here are some pictures from his birthday. He got a fish game, a surf board (boogie board), some Lincoln Logs, and other wooden toys that should be able to endure 3 year old behavior better than the cheap plastic goods they're sticking on shelves these days.

Sedona

I notice it's almost been a year since the last blog entry...so I guess we better get another on here. This last weekend we took the family to Sedona. It was beautiful. Here are some pictures. We stayed at a nice little resort in town with a couple pools. We took it easy, went on a couple little hikes, ate at some great restaurants, watched TV, and relaxed. It was a perfect little trip.

The first 5 pics are from a little hike we took to a creek to eat lunch the first day up Oak Creek Canyon. We found a perfect little island in the middle of the creek to eat.

Axel was annoyed by the sand getting in his crocks while we were hiking, so I had to carry him most of the way, or he stood on my feet while I walked. Serves us right for making him hike in crocks I guess.
Axel is into pointing and saying "No." In the picture above, he was mad I was taking another picture since I had just taken the picture below of him on the bridge. So he let me know.
All I can say is you don't mess with a kid in those glasses with that tiger on his shirt. No thank you.

Coolest Kid on the Block

This is him with his favorite Diego backpack. He can count to 10 in spanish already (but only to 3 in English.) Plus he's already learned to pick strawberries. (That wasn't appropriate.)

This is Axel being sweet to his new baby sister Marie. He's usually sweet to her although he does like to play catch with her and she hasn't figured out how to catch yet. And he did try playing swords with her yesterday with a long plastic crayon thing, but she didn't have a sword so he won. Luckily mom stepped in.

We recently got back from Utah for the Hendrickson family reunion and for my sister Jordan's wedding. Both were great. While up there we blessed the baby at Aspen Grove. Here is a picture of all of Marie's uncles and grandpa's that stood in on the blessing. Ironically, the 2 grandpa's have more hair than all the uncles. Maybe it's time they stop showing off and get the clippers out. If not, we may have to go BYU freshman year on their heads and shave them while they're asleep.

The Zoo with Dad

Today while Shalaine was at the hospital with Ricky, I decided to take Axel to The Living Desert. It's the zoo we have out here. In the 6 years we've lived here, we had never been and it's only about 15 minutes away from our house. Shalaine took him yesterday and he loved it so much he wanted to go back again today. It was a fun day and Axel loved seeing the Giraffes, Zebras, birds, but mostly he liked petting and combing the Goaks, (goats).

Hi everyone! No, this post is not about the movie starring felicity huffman as a tranny (i never saw it honest). It's about The Great Cross-Country Road Trip starring me, Patrick, and America. Here are just some of the places we went. Overall we crossed 11 states.

Here is the car all packed up- Hertz upgraded us to a Corolla...what what. Patrick making sure that June the bike is secure. Saying goodbye to the old block.

Our first stop was upstate New York. A little out of the way, but we thought it would be a great place to enjoy the fall leaves. This is Watkins Glen. It's by the finger lakes and is a nice hike to all sorts of waterfalls. It's also where they shot some of Last of the Mohicans. Pure beauty.
Is that Daniel Day Lewis behind that waterfall there? Nope, just patrick.

Next we went to Niagara Falls. At night they have a laser light show on the water. Here we are in our slickers for the Maid of the Mist boat tour. Cold, wet and windy= struggling with our picture faces. But it was really awesome and they take you right up to the base of the falls. Once a little boy fell in the river and went over the falls and survived. He was rescued by the Maid of the Mist. Once a woman went over the falls in a barrel with her cat. She survived too.
Then we hit up Kirtland for some church history. We went to the temple and got to sing the Spirit of God inside the chapel where they did the dedication. It was awesome. We also went to old Kirtland to see where the prophet used to live (above the Newell K. Whitney store) and where he received a lot of revelations like the Word of Wisdom.
South Dakota could quite possible be the most random place on earth, but it was highly enjoyable. It takes forever to drive across and is basically just straight corn fields, so they have to make it seem exciting by advertising strange attractions on the highway for hundreds of miles, till you get so excited about it that you have to pull off and see the biggest drugstore in America! Take the Corn Palace for example, which is just a basketball court, but the whole outside of it is decorated with corn husks. Look closely. Now you've seen it- so don't ever go.
What's this? Oh just a giant gorilla playing piano in his hat and boots at a gas station (advertised as an original cowboy town). His name is Singing Sam. He doesn't sing or anything.
South Dakota does however have some wonderful things to offer. I give you Mount Rushmore.
I loved it. It's amazing when you start to think about the guys up there carving the faces in the early 1900s, basically dangling by a rope. And they came out looking so accurate.

There's Crazy Horse in the distance. You can see his arm pointing out. He's not done yet, and they've been working on him for over 60 years.
And plenty of buffalo to spare. They get so close you can reach out and touch them, but that's probably not a good idea. We ended our trip with a couple of days in Yellowstone, but sadly all of those pictures are on Patrick's camera so that will have to be another post. All in all it was a great trip and we didn't have any problems. Anyone wanna drive across the South?

Beau Update

Hey Everyone,

Here are some recent pics. I'm just finishing up the yoga program and loving all the body therapies that I'm still enrolled in. Been doing a lot of Zen Shiatsu treatments. Just at the end of that program and then starting up the Release Point program next week. Release Points a combination of Shiatsu like thumb and palm pressure, skin and fascia rolling and some mild stretches. This really helps open up the healing channels in the body, the person is also super relaxed due to some cool head and nerve holds we do. You can also use your insurance and so we'll be working hospitals and doctors.

Me and Astara as a Greek God and Goddess. She made everything from sheets and stuff from Savers, even the hair leaves and jewerly. Luckily I had purchased a sweet mullit a week earlier that just happened to work out perfect.

Here are some pics from the last couple weeks. Mom and dad came down one week for Alison's wedding, and then made the drive again the next weekend for Sharon's funeral. The morning after the funeral, in memory of Sharon, we (Me, Shalaine, Shalaine's brothers and sister and spouses, and mom and dad) did Sharon's favorite hike - the bump and grind. As you can see, mom was having a tough time but we made it to the top and all struck a Sharon pose. We did the hike much later in the day, (around 9am). She would do it at 4:30am and get up to the top in time to see the sunrise.

Dad and I took Axel on a little ride on our beach cruisers around the golf course behind our house. Perfect weather and ride, except Axel didn't like riding through the sprinklers.

The Tenth Green Bean.

This post is full of slippery slope and hyperbole, and should only be read at an hour of the day when your intelligence is peaking.

I've been thinking, and can't believe it has taken me this long to post about this when I should have gotten right to it on doom's day, May 24...the day kendall proposed and the day our lives of blogging became mass confusion. I don't know how many of you have actually taken into consideration that mal is becoming a part of the family in two days, therefore presenting the problem that our blog can no longer be named the 9 green beans.

"Who cares?", you say.

But in reality the Green family's identity is about to change forever. You think people will still read our blog 'ir'regardless (refer to cousin bree's blog) of how many of us there are? We are lying to the entire American blogging population. Do we actually want to be known for only having 9 people in our family for the rest of our infinite existence?!?! I don't think so...We are lying to the many amiable people who just want to check up on our family.

It's like the boy who cried wolf.

Kendall gets married, we don't change it, then the day comes when Beau and Jordan get married, we don't change it and it still remains a lie the day I kneel at the alter. So we finally decide to change the name. Then who knows? Who really knows! Because our entire family identity casts a shadow of only nine people, and the newest members go unnoticed.

So what do we do about this problem you may ask? Do we throw someone out? Axel? Make it adults only? No, because he was even here before mal was so he would grow up and be super offended. Then he might become a rebel and fulfill cort's fear of becoming gay. Let's not even go there. But honestly, the first word of the green family blog is nine. And in two days that number will be irrelevant.

It's a risky move though, changing the name, then people might not know who we are and when they try to go to the 9 green beans blog and are faced with the ever-terrible words "Cannot be displayed" in big red letters across the top of their screens. Then they'll think something drastic has happened and they won't know what to do. The whole family has vanished along with their blog. Can you imagine? The trauma.

So I approach you with this ultimatum. Would you rather people hate us for lying to them about the number of people in our family, or people hate us because they get all confused trying to access our blog?

Do we really want to go through with this wedding.

Sedona Yoga Trip

Shalaine and I went to Lake Powell last week with the youth in our ward. It was an incredible trip. The youth and leaders all had a great time, played a lot, and strengthened our testimonies. We left Axel for a week with Jon and Louann so we missed him but I knew he was in good hands watching plenty of Angel games on TV, and going to the beach with his cousins. I'd send you to Louann's blog to see pictures of his week in Laguna Beach but her blog is private cause only cool people are privilaged enough to access what's going on in her life.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the trip. Also, Mom and Dad thanks for the Bike Seat for our birthdays. We finally took it out this evening for it's first ride and Axel loved it...as you can see from the picture.

We did a lot of tubing, and unfortunately the only life jacket available to me was a girls, but I think I pulled it off nicely.

The Best of Both Worlds

This definitely goes down in history as one of the best 4th of Julys ever. Stadium of Fire

was absolutely amazing. Honoring all the servicemen, the jets, Glen Beck, Blue Man Group all were wonderful. But the highlight was seein my very own favorite HANNAH MONTANA!!!!!!!!!! or Miley Cyrus. She's got the best of both worlds. So do these guys:

Happy 30th birthday! I'm sorry you're getting a blogpost too but I didn't want you to feel left out. If you want me to list 3o reasons why I love you just let me know (cause I sure can!), but I thought I'd spare the public all my cheesiness and just let you know that you have always been a wonderful brother and I've looked up to you my entire life. From your musical gifts to your smarts to your athleticism, you are jut all around talented and have shown what a hard worker you are. I'm always impressed with how dedicated you are to goals and how you seem to do everything you do very well. And for your birthday, I will tell you something that I've never admitted... I think you're the better piano player of the two of us. But I can accept that because you're my cool big brother, so of course you have to show me up in some things. Anyway Cort I love you and I hope you have a wonderful day! (sorry this ended up being a little cheesy anyway, but I mean it).

Hey everyone it's Beau, wow!!

Hey everyone, so this is my first post, Mom won't leave me alone about posting so you can thank her for the privilege you all have to find out what's going on in my life. So this is Roxy the pain in the butt kitten and Hurley the endangered desert tortoise, just my little fam. So basically a lot has been going on with me. I just started back at school at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. I'm specializing in Yoga Teaching and Zen Shiatsu Massage. It's a really cool program and I'm definitely in my domain. I am learning so much and gaining some really good skills. My goal was to work with golfers on their core strength and flexibility but I'm open to all possibilities that are being presented and the more I learn the more I know God is directing my life and all I have to do is follow that direction. It's been really fun and challenging and I am so blessed to be part of such a cool up and coming industry. Here's a pic of a couple of us after teaching yoga to kids at a nearby homeless shelter. Maybe I went to serve or maybe just to hang out with the three cuties on my right :) oh well, I guess that's what comes with the yoga territory. But seriously it's really cool, next week we have the opportunity to volunteer at a burn victims recovery hospital to help them repair their damaged muscles. I also changed ManageMyMusic.com to VendThreads.com and have had quite a bit of business and am finishing up the website. PS websites are a pain to develop. It's basically screen printed and embroidered apparel for bands and businesses. It's fun and I am interested to see what will come of it. Other than that, just been playing a lot of golf and dating here and there. I did shoot my first legit 70 round this week on a par 72 course, the yoga really helps my back and balance so maybe if things continue to go well I'll be teeing off on the tour soon :) I'll be sure to send everyone a postcard. Here's the view from my hotel window in Antwerp. I was there on business last week. I'm working for GlobalSim...a company that makes simulators for big ship to shore cranes, helicopters, and other cool stuff.

This is where I went to church Sunday. It's the old cathedral in Antwerp, Belgium. They started building it in 1351 and finished in 1521. The service was beautiful (all in Dutch) the pipe organ was awesome, and we got to sing in Latin! I was in heaven! I went from Antwerp to Amsterdam...

This is the Rembrandt Museum...which I toured, then I climbed on one of these canal boats and toured the canals. What a cool city. Everybody rides bikes.

It was a good trip. I learned a lot. I'm excited about the new job. I met a lot of interesting people from all over the world. I missed having Laurel there...because everything is just better with her around as you all know.

These Days

I know I won't be included in any of the family memories/pictures for the past 6 months but I have been alive! So here are some pictures of random things I've done lately:

A trip to LA for work. And plenty of sneaking out to play...

...like saying I had "family thing" to sneak away from work and go to Disneyland. Shh! So at about 12 am while in the middle of take-off, Space Mountain broke down. I was bummed because it was the final ride i needed to complete the mountain trifecta, and it was the last ride of the day. But people in space suits came and escorted all of us "cadets" out of our "spaceships" while apologizing for having to interrupt our "voyage". I'm just glad we didn't breakdown in the middle of the corkscrew. In case you're wondering what the inside of space mountain looks like with the lights on, here:

Also, while in CA, I hung out with a lot of football players (the charity I work for is the official charity of Fox Sports NFL). Hence the reason the 4 of us from my department went down to LA- for the NFL rookie premier at the LA Coliseum. Apparently you're not allowed to take pictures at the performance. I learned this after the staff woman below came over and insisted on watching me delete one I had taken. So instead, Patrick sneaked a picture on his phone which was masked behind a Junior Mints box. We're putting on our most casual, just trying to read the back of the Junior Mints box, faces. But that didn't fool her- because she came over and made him delete it in front of her again. Luckily he had already emailed it to me... And while she was watching him delete it she noticed this little gem saved on the phone as well....

One of my life long dreams came true last night. I got to attend a Western Conference Finals game at the Staples Center and sit Court Side. A few weeks ago my buddy Jared and I went to the Jazz/Lakers game which was sweet too, being that it was my first playoff game. But to get to watch the Lakers beat up on the defending champion Spurs while sitting so close to Jack I could see the Viagra pills in his blazer pocket was pretty sweet. There were a lot of high lights to the night...the game, the seats, the celebs, etc., but the most memorable occured in a crowded mens bathroom at half time. There was a line for the urinals. When it was finally my turn I pulled into my spot amongst the crowd and noticed the guy next to me demonstrating some sweet skills. He was using his right hand to accomplish the task at hand, and with his left hand he was texting someone. I didn't pay close enough attention to see if he was able to maintain accurate aim, but I was impressed at his ability to multitask. I can't imagine the urgency of the message, but I guess it couldn't wait 30 seconds till he was done. Anyway, a big thanks to Blaine for the invite. It was hard to sacrifice a night watching my four nieces and nephews, but I couldn't' pass it up. Thank you to Shalaine for going solo with the four kids plus Axel plus Ricky...so six kids. (Just kidding Ricky.) And thanks to Steph and Eric for filling in with Sharon so Blaine could have a night out. It's interesting to read a sports centered blog posting written by a girl in her 20's. It seems like girls focus on different things than guys do when going to a sporting event. My posting probably would have consisted of a few less pics of Jeter. One question though....are you sure Jeter was winking at you girls, and not the guys sitting behind you?

Heyyyy family. I'm officially depressed that you guys are all together playing with the babe this weekend, and my recent sightings of Collin Ferrell, Phillip Seymore Hoffman, and Mario Batalli in my neighborhood do not soothe the pain! I missssss you guyssss! But perhaps there is one sighting that makes being in New York well worth it:That's right, our main man Paul. Singer/songwriter from the internationally acclaimed duo Simon and Garfunkel. On Monday I went to the premier of a movie called Black Magic at the Apollo Theatre right by my work. It's a documentary that was made by one of our board members, and follows the Civil Rights movement through basketball. Our organization benefited from the ticket sales, so I was able to go for free. I love when my job has perks...tis rare. We also had a bit of a VIP reception here at the office right before the premier, where such greats as Earl "The Pearl" Monroe graced us with their presence. The movie follows the life of several such influential basketball players, most of whom attended all black universities in the 60s, and follows their struggles to progress because of segregation, in spite of their being the best players in the country. The movie is showing commercial free on ESPN (it's a 4 hour version, so Tivo it) on March 16 &17. I would definitely suggest watching it. You'll shed a tear.

Paul came to the VIP reception in our office, and then walked over to the Apollo. After the movie, I was able to get out before most of the crowd, and as I was walking down 125th street in Harlem, who do I see standing there in a beige trench coat and fedora but Mr. Simon, yes just standing there, all by his lonesome. The sidewalks were empty. While I felt the urge to break out in The Only Living Boy in New York, it was more like the sound of silence. We shared what I would like to call a moment as the only 2 (well plus my friend, but you know those things where everyone else disappears) people on this sidewalk in the city. You guys, it was sort of a big deal. Kendall told me he wrote the Sound of Silence sitting on his bathroom floor in the dark at age 14. Enough said...

So I guess I'll just be here....have fun without me. I miss you all deeply! I am so sad I'm missing this weekend. Everything in the city is great- I'm really looking forward to it getting warm again. Let's bust out that vacation jar and plan something!

Super Bowl Sunday...and NO Church

Yes...they canceled church today. We got about 14" of snow this morning and I guess they decided it was too dangerous for us to walk across the street. You can see how disappointed we were. The word from the old-timers is this is the most accumulation we've had in Alpine in 25 years. So we hunkered down and did "projects". Berit actually went to a Super Bowl party with a bunch of her friends. Mom and I sat on the bed (as usual) and worked on photo albums. Now...if we just don't take anymore pictures for the rest of our lives, we'll be able to stay up to date!

It's Back

We've been without a computer for a couple weeks which is miserable. Fortunately I have one at work to help satisfy the electronic addiction we all seem to be suffering these days. Shalaine on the other hand had to quit blogging cold turkey which was pretty tough. Sometimes I would come home from work to find her in the fetal position on the floor shaking. Lying next to her would be a cereal box that she had fashioned into a computer monitor, but alas she would not be able to pull up anything.blogspot.com. Oddly, the only screen she could get was the Honey Bunches of Oats home page. Anyway, after getting our power supply replaced, the computer has returned home. Here are a couple videos. We spent last weekend in Orange County so the Great-Grandma's could visit with Axel. We hung out with Brooke and Dave Friday night, played a little password, talked diapers, teething, and tried to distinguish who the babies resembled most. Saturday we went to South Coast to look at expensive stuff that's not worth the money. However, the Merry-Go-Round only cost a buck so we purchased a ticket and took Axel on his first ride. Grabbed lunch at Lawreys, for which we were scolded by Grandma Everson, as the Prime Rib Sandwhich at R&D's is 10 times better, allegedly. For some reason I usually prefer to eat whatever product comes as a result of the R&D, but I hear this place is worth a try so next time we're down we'll give it a shot. Saturday night Grandma Everson took over as baby sitter and we went and saw Juno with Jon and Louann. Refer to Dro's blog for more details on the night, and a movie review. I give it four stars though. Good flick. It's good to be back in the blogosphere. I know I'm logged in under Shalaine's account, but this is Cort.

I went platinum blonde last week, and i'm diggin it. Also i went to preference last night with my friend garrett (yeah i know...berit and garrett...ha.) Very fun. Tuxes are the best thing that's ever happened to man's wardrobe.

Shalaine and I have become quite the political junkies lately. This happens to me whenever the presidential election rolls around, but this year having a horse to pull for makes it that much more interesting. 8 years ago I wasn't all that excited about Bush, but thought Gore was a too much of a robot who we had had in the whitehouse as VP for the previous 8 years. Bush was likeable and conservative so I pulled for him, and ended up really getting into the debates and the race. 2008 is here now and the Bush era is coming to a close. Which brings me to the theme of this year's primaries in both parties. CHANGE. You hear this buzzword constantly in the campaigns of Mitt and Barako. I realized a few months ago that there really is something to be said of change...and it's actually one of the reasons I wasn't a huge fan of Bush originally. If Hillary Clinton gets the Democratic nomination, which looks likely right now, and she goes on to win the election something rather dangerous happens. Say she serves 2 terms and is in office till 2016. Our country will have been led by only 2 families since 1992, the Bush's and the Clintons. That's a period of 24 years. When Bush was running in 2000 I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be a good idea to elect a different republican nominee than the son of our last Republican president?" It's like we had King George and then Prince George Jr. And now this year we're looking at the possibility of King Bill and Queen Hill. Fortunately our government is organized to work against any sort of royalty or dictatorial power, but I think it's an interesting observation, and perhaps speaks to a sort of comfort zone that America is afraid to step out of.

Now to this years race. It looks to me like Romney will win Florida. A huge boost to his campaign, making him at least equal with McCain as the front runner. He's had the most momentum over the last week in the poll, passing up McCain in many of them...although McCain still holds a .5 point advantage in the RCP average of all the polls. Realclearpolitics.com has become my new favorite website. Romney clearly won the debate on Thursday night in Florida, andthe results of that win haven't yet shown up on the polls. I think polls that come out on Monday will show Romney ahead by a one or two points, and he will carry that momentum into Tuesdays primary. This makes the race a two man race. Gulianni screwed himself by not participating in the earlier primaries. Huckabust is fading as he's not able to win the support of anyone but those who speak in tongues and play the guitar in church every Sunday. As long as the Economy remains the central issue in this primary, Romney I think will win the nominee. He seems much more comfortable and likable right now, and he's finally portraying Presidential potential whenever he's in debates or interviews. If we have any sort of terrorist attack anywhere in the world, then this will help McCain as terrorism may overtake the economy as the central issue. Anyway, Shalaine and I will be glued to the TV Tuesday evening watching the Florida results come back. My prediction....Romney 31, McCain 27, Gulianni 16, Huck 14.

Big News

WARNING! This is exciting news, but it may also lead to some depression as it may be construed as evidence of Axel growing up before your eyes, except that he's not really before your eyes, he's far away from your eyes, which is why it might cause some depression. The first tooth has busted through! Axel's been a little more fussy lately than usual because he's teething. A combination of Oral Gel, which is this nasty numbing agent you rub on his gums, and baby tylenol at night has kept him comfortable despite really hard white things trying to break through his gums. A couple days ago, however, Shalaine stuck her finger in his mouth and was literally punctured by the sharpest little dagger you could imagine. It was really sharp. He has sanded it down a little now by chewing on anything he can get his mouth on including books, morracas (sp?), seatbelts, my Robert Talbot ties, and church pews. I'm not sure if this has come early, or if this is about average in terms of when teeth start showing. Axel's friend Rell is 8 months old and still doesn't have any teeth, but then again his tongue is not seperated from his gums, so he's got other things to worry about. So that's about it. Shalaine and I promise to try to make it up to Utah in the near future. Not sure when though. So that's about it. The tooth isn't visible enough to get a good picture of, and Axel sticks his tongue out a lot so it's hard to snap a shot or else we'd post one.

Axel also had his first trip to Disneyland last week. Shalaine took a little video that we'll try to post soon, but our computer is acting like a re-re these days so it's made it difficult.

Everyone has all these crazy adventures! Meanwhile, I'm kinda stuck here in alpine, but seriously could not be more content with my somewhat uneventful life. Except for the 3 zits, and coldsore that I have right now, but other than that I am good. Anyway-I have nothing exciting to write about, so here are some pictures of random things I have to say. First of all-I took thise at the reunion. Jordan, Jamie, and Bree all fell asleep this way...precious. Secondly-I had to show mom what a healthy breakfast I had in honor of her while out of the state last week. I had oatmeal(and mexicans don't have brown sugar to put on top....apparently. Boring), and fruit, and yogurt, and a muffin. So healthy. And so yummy. My last pointless comment is that the number 23 is everywhere and keeps popping up in my life. I look at the clock at least 5 times a day to find the minute hand on the 23. Also, just today I found out as I arrived at my new sunday school class that we are in room number 23. This is a picture of when we went bowling and when I looked up, we were at lane 23. And then we parked at portal number 23 last week. Last night I won 750,000$ from case 23 on online Deal or No Deal(unlike cort, I didn't actually win any real money). And that's tyler's number. And I think I'm in love. FYI he made 29 points at Friday's game...so proud :) K I just wanted to write something...hopefully life will start getting exciting soon and I will have important things to say. Axel is SO cute...and I show him off to everyone. Pretty sure you guys should come visit here soon. There's lots of nice snow to welcome you. Au revoir!

An Axel a day keeps the frowns away

Here's the latest video of Axel getting a bath and in his new cool high chair. Jordan, I'm glad you got the book. I hope you like it. It's a pretty amazing story, but there are some gruesome details of that guys life that are pretty unbelievable. It's good to see you're having fun in NYC. Just an update on Shalaine's mom....she's getting released from the hospital tomorrow which is very exciting. She'll wait a couple weeks and then go back for a bone marrow transplant, but she's making some good progress. Shalaine and I had a goood week. I had one of my staff hand me a $100 bill for Christmas. The lady is 75 years old and makes $10 an hour, but has a huge heart and insisted on giving me a gift. So I finally accepted and promised to take Shalaine to a fancy dinner with the money. Then on Thursday I played 2 rounds of golf with Jon and some friends. I played really well and ended up taking home $100 from that as well, so I promised Shalaine to take her to an even nicer dinner. We were excited, but nervous cause you never know how the Ace is going to do in nice restaurants....and ususally people aren't too excited when they see us walk in with a baby to interrupt their nice dinner. But we braved one of our favorite restaurants - Firecliff, and splurged. The food was great and the bill was as beefy as Shalaine's 10oz Filet Minon, but Axel behaved perfectly so it all worked out. It's been a few days since anyone has posted so I guess I'm up. Here's what has been happening lately with me. First of all, I want to thank Cort for the amazing gift!! I have heard so much about that book and had really wanted to read it. It was sooooo cool to open it up and see a note from the author! How special! I've started reading it and he's already becoming my hero. THANKS!!!!!The reason I'm so frumpy in this picture is that I have done absolutely nothingggg today. I think I broke my foot or something so I've decided to try my best to stay off of it until I go see the doc on monday. So there's another reason I'm grateful to have this new book to read :)

Anyway, Rauna and Dane were here this whole past week and just left yesterday. We had a great time celebrating New Years and life in general. Here are some highlights:

We waited outside in the rain for 2 hours for this pizza. As you can see, Rauna's ready to eat. It's pretty good pizza but now I'm not sure it was THAT good. Anyway we finally made it inside and ate 3 whole pizzas (there were a couple others at the table). But after 2 hours in the rain, one does not hold back. We took a cab 3 blocks. That's how freezing it is in this place.

No soup for you...come back 1 year.

NEW YEARS

Here we are on a friend's roof celebrating the New Year. My friend Thelma came up from DC for the festivities. We went to the Mormon party but decided there wasn't enough craziness (drunk people) there so had to go out dancing elsewhere afterward.

Nice work on the recent blog posts everyone. I watched the T-Mobile tournament and was pretty impressed with Haas even though they couldn't pull out the victory. I don't know why he ever passed the ball. He should shoot everytime. That's what almost got them back in the game toward the end. It would help if someone on the team could have hit just a couple of the 20 3-pointers they threw up too. Oh well. It sounds like he's got a bright future, but after BYU's sorry loss to Boise State, maybe he'll be stearing away from becoming a Coug. Is he a senior or a Junior? Anyway, here is a little video we took this afternoon of Axel playing with his new Christmas present. He doesn't quite have the hang of it yet, but he stands up pretty good with it. MY FIRST BLOG POST!!!!

Today my friend Dane came to town. We went to FAO Shwarz and saw the big piano from the movie Big. These two toy store workers were putting on a show. Their only job is to perform songs on the piano for the tourists. My first thought was- How do I get that job. But then I realized how super cheesy they were when they started posing while they were dancing on the piano and telling everyone to take pictures of them. I could imagine them practicing their routine over and over all night. They were eating up the fame. I was mad because they were taking up the whole piano and I thought I could do much better then them. All they could play were Heart and Soul and Chopsticks. Watch me give Chopin a spin on that thing! Anyway, we didn't try it because the line was humongous by the time the demo was done, and I got really angry about the tourists (which happens quite often). So instead we went to the Harry Potter section and tried on hats.

Tonight my friends and I went and saw The Color Purple on Broadway. You may have heard of it... it's an Oprah Winfrey production. This is Fantansia Barrino, our very own American Idol, singing her little heart out. I was skeptical of it at first, because I feel like Oprah often overreacts about things and then everyone freaks out about them too. But it actually was really good. There was a lot of soul in the house... I'm talking about "soul grunts" (as Rauna has tagged them) and amens from members of the audience during particularly moving songs. I would have to rate this play at least a PG-13 though, just so those of you with small children know. The best thing about it is it's full of black people, so we know the singing and dancing is good.

Berit, that song sounded great....even on the little speakers coming from my monitor at work. The only thing more impressive than that performance, however, may be that dad figured out how to get it on the blog. Nice work dad.

I ended up singing 2 solos in church this last Sunday, and one of them was video taped, so maybe I'll eventually get a hold of the tape and post it. Good work B!

Christmas Solo

I've been doing the Christmas Sacrament meeting for 7 years in this ward. I'm not sure how many I've done before that....probably another 10. Berit has been in my ward choir for the past 7 years and I've been able to hear her voice develop and mature into this beautiful, clear, angelic voice. So this year, I got the idea to have her sing Panis Angelicus, Bread of Heaven, which I've always loved. Megan Hunsaker is a professional cellist who now lives in Colorado but was going to be here for Christmas, so she played. We snuck a video camera in and Kendall and Jordan recorded it. It was the highlight of the past 7 years for me. Only problem is that she's off to BYU next year and I won't have her in my choir...so I think I just peaked.

Welcome to the Nine Green Beans blog. The intention behind this blog is to allow each of us access to post messages, news, thoughts, announcements, love stories, pictures, funny stories, and anything else you want to post. You will each receive an email inviting you to be authors of this blog. This will simply require you to set up a google account, or blogger.com account. It is free. I think you're all savvy enough to set up an account and accept the invitation. Anyway, this will allow us to keep up on each other's lives as we're currently spread throughout the country from California, Phoenix, Utah to NYC.

Hopefully this blog isn't something that starts off strong and then fades away into an outdated oblivion because nobody uses it. Try to make a point to use it as often as you can or as much as you want. Also, if you have your own personal blog, you can post a link to that blog on this one and it'll accomplish the same thing. We wish we could be with all of you for Christmas, but since we can't, we'll make sure to post some pictures of Axel's first Christmas on the blog.

Another thing I forgot to mention. I also set up a family email address: 9greenbeans@gmail.com which I will give all of you the password to. I'm not sure what the point of this email is except that if anyone reads our blog and wants to respond to a posting, they may do it through email. It's basically just an email address to associate with the blog so I didn't have to put my work email in.

Shalaine asked what we will do once a 10th green bean enters the picture. That's a good question, but from what I can tell, there's only going to be 9 beans on this plate for awhile.

Since we couldn't be there with all of you this Christmas, here are some pictures from the last couple days. Also make sure to check out the blog http://neversaycant.blogspot.com for more pics of our Christmas eve, and for updates on Shalaine's mom. Shalaine was up till 2am setting up this blog last night and she did a great job. You will see pictures from an amazing Christmas Eve we had at the hospital with Shalaine's mom. We were all sitting around their house and decided to pack up the whole crew, with all the grandkids, and go suprise Sharon with some caroling at the hospital. It was also the first time she had seen Ricky since she's been sick. It was a special night and reminded me that our families are the most important thing we have, and I'm grateful you're all healthy and together for Christmas. In the next couple days I will post a video from that night on the blog.
